Hurricane Irma Readiness and Support

As you may (or may not) know, Fistbump Media headquarters is located in Sarasota, FL and our hosting servers are in a data center in Orlando, FL. Both of these cities are in the path of likely impact for Hurricane Irma.

While many people are evacuating, our office and our data center are both in relatively safe locations (not in flood zones, etc). So our plan is to hunker down and brace for impact.

Depending on the severity of the storm, we will continue to operate putting a greater emphasis on critical service support needs and less on new orders and project support. Our biggest priority is making sure that everything stays online.

Orlando Data Center Physical Infrastructure

Our Orlando enterprise data center features a building-within-a-building data center design which was created with Florida’s unique climate conditions in mind. The windowless, single-story building features concrete masonry perimeter walls powerful enough to withstand practically any storm. This data center will remain manned 24/7.

Two diesel generators, 500KW Caterpillar and 1250KW Katolight, are also on location in the unlikely event of complete power loss. These impressive generators hold up to 2700 gallons of diesel fuel so your server will stay online regardless.

Power Infrastructure Includes:
  • 1 X 500KW Caterpillar Diesel Generator
  • 1 X 1250KW Katolight Diesel Generator
  • 1 X 500KVA Powerware 9315 UPS
  • 1 X 480KVA Powerware 9390 UPS in a parallel N+1 configuration
  • 5 X Battery Strings (providing 15 minutes of runtime at full load)
  • 2,700 Gallons of fuel capacity for generators
Sarasota Home Office Details

While most of our staff is remote in various places around the country, the core is run from Sarasota. The office is not in a flood zone area and is located in a newer building that meets/exceeds Florida's strong hurricane-ready building codes. The biggest danger likely to impact this office is an extended power outage. In that case, communications and some support will likely be limited while we work to restore power. Therefore, some responses to non-critical issues may be delayed during that time.

If you have critical support issues you can open a support ticket with us. And if that is inaccessible for some reason, then email us directly at dan@fistbumpmedia.com.

We thank you for your patience and understanding during this weather event and hope that you have a great rest of your week and weekend.
